Recycled paper bags, calico, canvas, bamboo, FairTrade cotton, and Jute cloth bags are viable alternatives to the dreaded plastic bag. More than 500 billion plastic bags are used around the world each year, mostly once only, and then discarded in landfill or litter. Plastic litter is one of the major scourges of our oceans and marine life.

The paper bags in our range with cut-out handles and side gussets only are made in Australia from 100% post-consumer recycled paper,  while the calico bags from China are longer-life products, designed for maximum reuse, thereby saving the consumption of hundreds of plastic bags. The Bamboo Bags from China are made from sustainable, renewable Bamboo fibre. Plantation grown, pesticide and fertilizer free, and biodegradable. The bamboo is not sourced from a food source plantation. The FairTrade Cotton Bags are made in India ensuring fair conditions for the farmers and those making the bags. The Canvas and Jute Bags are strong bags made in India from natural materials. Jute is a versatile, natural fibre that has been used for centuries to make things such as rope, twine, hessian bags, rugs, and more. It is completely biodegradable, and requires less cultivation and maintenance than cotton.

Note that we don't supply non-woven bags as these are actually made from non-recycled plastic (polypropylene).
